The Ararat Wind Farm is located on rural land located approximately 180km northwest of Melbourne and between 9km – 17km northeast of Ararat in Victoria. The wind farm delivers significant environmental, social and economic benefits to the regional economies of Ararat Rural City Council and Northern Grampians Shire Council area and to the Pyrenees Shire Council which is hosting the substation. The majestic turbines began providing electricity to the grid in September 2016.
EDC were engaged by Downer engineering to complete the splicing and testing of all the fibre optic cabling at the Ararat windfarm. The windfarm consists of 77 wind turbines and 4 weather stations. EDC worked closely with Downer to ensure a high-quality product was delivered in a timely manner. The Ararat Wind Farm has a life span of 25 years and generates enough electricity to power around 123,000 homes per annum, or approximately six per cent of Victoria’s households.
